Welcome to New Cumberland, West Virginia

The city of New Cumberland is steeped in history, but adapting to the economic challenges of the 21st Century. Originally named Cuppy Town, New Cumberland was plotted in 1836, but was not incorporated until 1872.  Riverboat captains referred to New Cumberland as Brickyard Bend because of the long string of brickyards that lined the shores of the Ohio River.

Once the home of brickyards and coal and clay mines, New Cumberland now sees most of its residents employed in service areas and at nearby Weirton Steel or Mountaineer Park.

The city with its 1090 residents is happy to welcome you to share our history, community and pride.  We know that “Good People Make a Good Town!”
